Two countries, one region and a first ever binational TEDx event

On Sept. 4, the first binational TEDx event took place on the San Diego/Tijuana border. TEDxMonumento258 was a collaboration between the organizers of TEDxSanDiego and TEDxTijuana that brought together more than 400 people at the event and at viewing locations around Tijuana and San Diego under the theme “Ideas Without Borders.”

The independently organized event was an opportunity to share the history of this binational region, spotlight the successes achieved and challenges that remain between our two diverse cultures. Nuffer, Smith, Tucker’s role was to assist with regional media outreach and to coordinate with TEDx national to spread awareness of this milestone event throughout the nation. We loved being at the event, getting to know all the interesting people that spoke and being able to help on site for media interviews with attendees and organizers.

“TEDxMonumento258 provided an opportunity to explore how two cities continue to overcome cultural, legislative and physical barriers to create a binational region that capitalizes on the strengths and diversity each has to offer,” said Mark Lovett, organizer and chief architect of TEDxMonumento258.

All the TEDx talks will be available for viewing at TEDxMonumento258 by October, and you can also see what CNN had to say about the event.
