Mike Rose Acknowledged for his 2008 Achievements in Public Relations
To recognize his success in public relations and crisis management in the past year, Mike Rose, vice president of Nuffer, Smith, Tucker Inc., was awarded the Deborah Baker Professional of the Year Award at the recent Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Awards.
The Bernays Awards are presented each year by the San Diego chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and recognize the industry’s best public relations campaigns and local professionals. Dr. Bey-Ling Sha, assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University and last year’s award recipient, was on hand to present Rose with the honor.
“Mike’s skill for creating and carrying out successful and innovative strategy based plans is one of many reasons he is more than deserving of this award,” said Bill Trumpfheller, president of Nuffer, Smith, Tucker. “His superior understanding of crisis management, and ability to teach people how to anticipate and respond to crisis situations, has helped our clients manage and prevent potential crises, while further positioning Nuffer, Smith, Tucker as the go-to firm for handling business-threatening situations.”
With more than 18 years of experience in the communications industry, Rose joined Nuffer, Smith, Tucker in 2002 and has since been a leader in the firm’s crisis management and strategic planning programs. This year alone, Rose has effectively managed more than a dozen crisis situations for clients, including food safety recalls, labor issues and an explosion at a downtown San Diego hotel. Rose currently oversees accounts such as Sony Electronics, Paramount Citrus, California Citrus Research Board, Chicken of the Sea Int., The San Diego Union-Tribune and United Way of San Diego.
In addition to his knack for crisis and issues management, Rose’s experience in the communications industry has included brand development, marketing communications, strategic planning, advertising campaign creation, and media and community relations. He has led many award-winning campaigns in these areas.
The Deborah Baker Professional of the Year Award — named after Deb Baker, past director of communications for the Girl Scouts of San Diego-Imperial Counties and the mind behind the Operation Thin Mint Cookie Drive — is presented each year to a public relations practitioner who shows dedication to bettering the public relations field through innovative thinking and successful planning.
