There are many ways Nuffer, Smith, Tucker team members volunteer their time, talents and funds in our community. Some hold positions on nonprofit organizations’ boards of directors – like Price Adams for HomeAid San Diego and Bill Trumfpheller for American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties. Others participate in races or fun runs to benefit a cause; support the local military community; donate annually through United Way; or volunteer time on the weekends to local programs that need assistance. Each of these individual “donations” make a difference, but imagine what a difference we can collectively make.
The morning of June 27, NST will take to the streets of downtown San Diego to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego, an NST client. This annual Red Shoe Day fundraiser features not just a dozen or so NST employees, but 1,500 volunteers positioning themselves at major intersections to collect cash donations in iconic red shoes. The money raised (more than $100,000 was raised last year, but we can beat that this year – right?) helps provide meals, lodging and other supportive services to families with a critically ill or injured child being treated at a local hospital. You, too, can help the 12,500 family members who rely on our local Ronald McDonald House. Here’s how:
- Volunteer – Grab your friends, families or coworkers and create a Red Shoe Day team to pound the pavement from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 27. Register at RMHCSD.org.
- Open That Wallet – Keep an eye out for enthusiastic volunteers waving big red shoes on San Diego street corners June 27, and unload your spare change and dollar bills for this worthy cause.
- Donate Online – As an extension of NST’s Red Shoe Day participation, we’re collecting online donations through this fundraising page. Pull out the plastic and help make a difference in the lives of families suffering medical crises.
We hope you’ll join us! In the meantime, feel free to check out these photos of NST volunteering during the 2012 Red Shoe Day fundraiser.
