It’s true. I confess. Social media sometimes keeps me up at night. I don’t mean I’m up Tweeting or Facebooking (well, that too). I mean, the thought of social media and how it is impacting not only the public relations field and our clients’ industries, but also the world around us, keeps me up. It was during one of these late nights that a thought occurred to me.
What if we could get local leaders in PR (us Nuffer, Smith, Tuckarians of course), together with academia, traditional and new media, and local business leaders to discuss the impact social media is having on our respective industries, as well as opportunities for us all to prosper in this social-media world. Wouldn’t that be great? Guess what? It’s happening and we’re calling it the San Diego Social Media Symposium.
At Nuffer, Smith, Tucker, we’ve been working hard to bring this thing to fruition. We’re proud to say, we’ve partnered with San Diego State University on this effort. And, we’ve also secured a killer keynote – the Word of Mouth Marketing Association’s John Moore. The date is Friday, October 23. It’s a full day gig, which will be held at the new Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center at SDSU, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m., so mark your calendars now. The full agenda is still in the works (and we’re looking for panelists). Among the topics we will cover, include:
• Word of mouth basics
• Social media case studies
• The changing media landscape
• Playing it straight: the importance of ethics
• Social media in the workplace
• Social media measurement
Stay tuned for more information, or contact me with any questions. To receive e-mail updates about the symposium, send me an e-mail at ts@nstpr.com and include the word symposium in the subject.
